August - December 2012: Named & Nested

We spent the latter half of 2012 settling into the new house and preparing for the little one's arrival.

Although the new place was essentially move-in ready, a lot of organization was needed in the garage and basement. Vince built shelves in both locations to organize all of the tools, storage containers/boxes, etc that we've accumulated. He also installed a trash/recycling drawer in the kitchen that keeps the containers concealed and out of the way.

Casey began nesting, both in the nursery and elsewhere in the house. It started with a new side table and leather shag rug downstairs and then moved to outfitting the entire nursery upstairs. She and her mom spent several weekends sewing a bedskirt and covering the wooden valance boxes that Vince made. Vince was called upon to help with several other craft projects in the nursery, including assembling and painting the crate bookshelves and making the burlap wall hanging.

Vince's acumen with burlap continued with making more wall hangings for the kitchen. Casey found some burlap coffee bags from various countries on Etsy and Vince put them on custom made wood frames and added nailhead trim. They were a great solution to a large blank wall in the kitchen/hearth room.

We rounded out the year with Thanksgiving with Vince's family, Christmas just the two of us, and post-Christmas festivities with both of our families.

As we rang in the new year, we were eagerly awaiting our new arrival. We decided on the name Leena Jane. Lina was Casey's great grandma and Jane is Vince's grandma.

Great pictures! I love that peacock print that you used in Leena's room, and the fact that the colors and furniture you used in her room could easily grow with her (aka they don't scream nursery-only decor). Awesome!
