May 2010: April Showers Bring . . . More Showers

Vince's goals of making headway on his fence were thwarted by the coldest, rainiest May ever. He was able to notch the fence posts to match the existing posts, make more progress on organizing the garage, and begin fixing the wood rot on the outside of his house.

Casey managed to squeeze time in during one rain-free weekend to plant plants in her front yard and a dogwood in the backyard. It was not easy working from scratch: About 10 hours of digging, a rented roto-tiller, and a bad case of chiggers later, Casey successfully had an established bed, complete with Dianthus, Salvia, Bugleweed, Prague Viburnum, Sweet Spire, Cranesbill Geranium, and Columbine.

We saved the final weekend in May to embark on our first "Annual Trip Outside of the Continental United States." This year's exotic location? PERU! We'll be gone a total of 8 days and 7 nights, escaping to the lost Inca ruins of Machu Picchu and exploring the wilds of the Amazon.

To ensure a safe voyage, we've loaded up with an artillery of shots (yellow fever, tetanus, hepatitis A and, for Vince, typhoid fever) and prescriptions (malaria, altitude sickness, and travelers' diarrhea). Sounds like we're in for quite the adventure! Pictures and anecdotes from the trip will certainly follow!
